Scotland Correctional Institution is operated by the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. It is a close, medium, and minimum custody prison for men. Its residents are state prisoners, so their custody history follows NCDAC's OPUS and public OPI systems. Citizen Connect is the wrong source because that portal is confined to Scotland County jail booking information.
A community exit may occur at sentence expiration or onto post-release supervision or parole when the sentencing law permits. NCDAC release procedures also recognize court-ordered release, pardon or commutation, interstate action, safekeeper return, and other specialized movements. The record must identify the movement. A transfer from Scotland Correctional Institution to another NCDAC prison does not end incarceration.

The distinction prevents a common error. “Released from Scotland Correctional Institution” may only mean the person left that building. The receiving location and release type show whether state prison custody actually ended.
Scotland Prison OPI Search
The official NCDAC Offender Public Information search covers state prisons and people under probation, parole, or post-release supervision. NCDAC says historical information reaches back to 1972. The main form supports All, Active Inmate, Active Probationer/Parolee, and Inactive filters, along with offender number, name, Soundex surname, demographics, birth-date ranges, and age ranges.
Use an offender number when available. It sharply reduces mistaken identity. Otherwise combine the person's name with birth date, age, race, conviction, and other record details. Search Inactive as well as All for a past Scotland Correctional Institution incarceration. Open the matching detail and read the incarceration block apart from the community-supervision block.

Scotland Prison Release Record
A detailed OPI record may contain sentence and movement fields that must be read together. Incarceration Status answers whether NCDAC still treats the prison term as active. Actual Release Date is retrospective. Projected Release Date is an estimate that may change. Last Movement gives context for the exit or transfer. A supervision status can remain active even after incarceration becomes inactive.

An inactive incarceration paired with an Actual Release Date or release movement is stronger proof than an old projected date or a changed location alone.
The separate NCDAC Inmate Release Search can find state-prison releases by county, year and month, or surname. Its result fields include Release Date, Primary Offense, and Type of Release. Scotland is release-county value 83. That value is not necessarily the county of conviction or the county-jail booking location.
Scotland Prison Records Request
OPI is the first public source, but a precise NCDAC records request can seek more formal release or discharge material. Use the NCDAC Public Records portal. Give the person's name, OPUS number, Scotland Correctional Institution, and the relevant release date or range. Ask for an existing release or discharge movement record and readily available sentence or release history.
NCDAC says basic conviction, time served, sentence length, admission, and release dates are generally available. Much of the wider offender file is confidential. Electronic copies are the default. A simple request may take days, while a request that requires extensive review or redaction may take weeks or months. This office does not hold Scotland County jail records.

Scotland Prison SAVAN Alerts
North Carolina SAVAN/VINELink adds a status and notification channel for NCDAC custody. It is not the authoritative historical archive. Search the person by the most precise name or ID available, compare the custody agency and identifiers, and open the matching state record. A SAVAN result tied to NCDAC should not be merged with a separate Scotland County jail entry.
Registration can use phone, text, or email when offered. The telephone workflow uses a four-digit PIN chosen by the registrant to acknowledge the notification. Telephone help and registration are available at 1-877-627-2826. VINE warns that its information may not be accurate, timely, or complete, so confirm an alert with OPI and the named custodian.

A notification means the supplying agency reported a qualifying custody change. It may not reveal every receiving agency, so follow the movement record when another custodian may be involved.
Scotland Release Supervision Status
Leaving prison and ending correctional control are not the same event. A person can have inactive incarceration and active post-release supervision, probation, or parole. Post-release supervision is a statutory period after prison for covered felony sentences. Parole applies mainly to older or specially governed cases. The OPI supervision block can name the Probation/Parole Office that handles local reporting.
The North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission sets eligible parole decisions and post-release conditions. Community Corrections administers supervision. For traditional parole matters, the Commission says it does not conduct formal hearings or meet personally with offenders. Monthly Discretionary Parole Reviews and Media Notifications are decision sources, but a proposed or established date stays prospective until OPI records the actual movement.

Scotland Prison Projected Date
OPI's Projected Release Date is not an actual release record. It is based on sentences, credits, and governing law, and can change after a court order, revised sentence data, credit activity, disciplinary consequences, revocation, a new sentence, or a detainer. Multiple sentence-level projected dates can also appear on one record.
North Carolina Structured Sentencing requires the minimum term to be served for covered active felony sentences. Earned time operates within statutory limits. A shorthand percentage cannot resolve consecutive terms, credits, detainers, or the transition to post-release supervision. Record the date and its “as of” context, then recheck near the projection. Once NCDAC posts an Actual Release Date, that retrospective field is stronger evidence.
